Waiting On Wednesday: Girl Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie by C.A. Verstraete

Girl Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie
Author: C.A. Verstraete
Publisher: Intrigue Publishing
Expected Publication Date: August 1, 2013

From Goodreads:
Life can suck when you're sixteen. It can suck even worse when you're not- quite- dead.

Sixteen-year-old Rebecca Herrera Hayes faces every teenager's biggest nightmares: bad skin, bad hair, and worse . . . turning into one of the living dead.

Becca's life changes forever when her cousin Spence comes back to their small Wisconsin town carrying a deadly secret—he's becoming a zombie, a fate he shares with her through an accidental scratch.

The Z infection, however, has mutated, affecting younger persons like her, or those treated early enough, differently. Now she must cope with weird physical changes and habits no girl wants to be noticed for. Then she meets Gabe, a good-looking part-Z like her, and fears falling for him. After all, how can he, who shows hardly any Z symptoms, be interested in someone like her?

But time is running out... Becca needs his help as she and her cousin Carm search for their missing mothers and fight off hungry Zs.

Most of all, she needs to find something, anything, to stop this deadly transformation before it is forever too late.

I have to admit I was never a big fan of Zombie books or Zombie movies and then I watched Warm Bodies and had to ask myself are zombies SO BAD?  So now I need to read Isaac Marion's book Warm Bodies as well as this one!

I know a lot of you identified Zombies as a topic you stay away from, Top Ten Lists, so I'm wondering what you think:  Yes to Zombie books or No to Zombie books and possibly why if you have the time.

Waiting on Wednesday features upcoming releases and is hosted by Breaking the Spine.

  1. That looks creepy as heck! But I loved the film of Warm Bodies and have the book on my shelf, so maybe I'll give this one a go, too?

    1. I know the cover is creepy. Since I am still very new to the Zombie genre I thought I would try one with a female lead. ~Sheri

  3. I'm just not a fan of zombies. I won't pick up a book if it specifically says zombies. That being said, I have picked up books before where it hasn't specifically said zombies, then it turned out to be a zombie book, and I ended up enjoying it. So maybe I need to give them more of a chance. I think the biggest reason I don't like them is because they tend to be super gory and I just don't enjoy reading about or watching super gory stuff. I did want to see the movie Warm Bodies though because it looked like an interesting take on zombies. Don't know if I'll read this one. Maybe I'll wait for you to read and review it and then decide. :)

    1. You should definitely watch the movie. There is some gore but not crazy amounts. I watched one episode of The Walking Dead and it was GROSS!!! Do not watch that one. Thank you for stopping by. ~Sheri

  4. Zombies was on my top ten yesterday. I just don't like of, like, rotting flesh and I hate it when authors try to make zombies sexy. But I also hate books with swarms of non-sexy zombies who are infected by some kind of virus or whatnot. I do think there are exceptions to everything. I've heard great things about Warm Bodies and do plan on reading it, but for the most part, I just don't like them. I'll keep my eye out for your review of this one to see what you think...

    1. Hmmm ...after these comments I'm beginning to think that Warm Bodies is the exception to the rule and I'm no longer as excited as I once was I have to admit ~Sheri

  5. Zombies are big right now! They kind of freak me out. Also that cover is SCARY. I wouldn't want to be out alone after dark in that desolate place. Fun pick!

  6. Hmm, I'm intrigued! I used to be terrified of zombies, but my husband got me addicted to The Walking Dead, and now I am okay with them. So, I'd probably read this one!

  7. We just watched Warm Bodies last weekend. I laughed so much! I'm one of those that isn't into zombies. I guess though, it depends on how they're written. I read Forest of Hands and Teeth (still need to finish the series) and I really don't like those types of zombies. I guess I'm just not into to scary deathly being who kill and eat without thought or reasoning. I'm looking forward to what you think of this when you get to reading it. Thanks for stopping by my WOW!
