Book Review: Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles #2)
Author: Marissa Meyer
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends, 454 Pages
Publication Date: February 5th, 2013

From Goodreads:
The fates of Cinder and Scarlet collide as a Lunar threat spreads across the Earth...

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Review:
I'm not sure there is much I can say about this book that hasn't already been said but for those who aren't familiar with the Lunar Chronicles series I should start with the following.

Once upon a time.....Marissa Meyer once again took a classic fairytale and updated and improved it.  Never before have I rooted for the Wolf, but in this book he was frightening and charming, he was disturbing and loveable.  I thought Scarlet was a creative blend of independence and insecurity.  Her attitudes toward embracing differences and withholding judgment were a lovely part of the story.  Grandma's storyline left me with more questions than answers and I'm hoping we learn more about her in Cress (book 3).

For those who have read Cinder, her daring escape with the charming Captain Thorne added some much needed comic relief and then to find Iko back in the story was a real pleasure!  I have to admit though I need Cinder to just accept her identity as the "......" so that she can stop fretting about it.  I realize I might get some push-back from my next comment but I am so over Prince Kai!

Finally, how cool was it that Queen Mind Control has some secrets that are slowly being revealed.  I can't wait to find out what all those references were in Chapter Forty-Five!!

Oh can someone make February 4th, 2013 come sooner!!
