Book Review: Horde by Ann Aguirre

Horde (Razorland #3)
Author:  Ann Aguirre
Publisher:  Felwell & Friends, 432 pages
Publication Date:  October 29, 2013

From Goodreads:
The horde is coming.

Salvation is surrounded, monsters at the gates, and this time, they're not going away. When Deuce, Fade, Stalker and Tegan set out, the odds are against them. But the odds have been stacked against Deuce from the moment she was born. She might not be a Huntress anymore, but she doesn't run. With her knives in hand and her companions at her side, she will not falter, whether fighting for her life or Fade's love.

Ahead, the battle of a lifetime awaits. Freaks are everywhere, attacking settlements, setting up scouts, perimeters, and patrols. There hasn't been a war like this in centuries, and humans have forgotten how to stand and fight. Unless Deuce can lead them.

This time, however, more than the fate of a single enclave or outpost hangs in the balance. This time, Deuce carries the banner for the survival of all humanity.

Review:
One of the best series enders I have ever read.  Maybe the best.  This is such an amazing and satisfying conclusion to this series.  All your questions are answered about the Freaks (Muties) and all of the personal relationships are resolved (although there is one I'm not positive about).

Deuce and Fade...how I love their relationship.  They have both grown and changed so much throughout this series.  What happened to Fade in Outpost just broke my heart, I couldn't take it.  I admired him in Enclave, but I fell in love with him in Outpost and I didn't think it was possible for me to love him more, but yes, Horde made me love him more.  There were so many moments in this book (and in Outpost) where I was just saying, "Fade!"

And Deuce, she has shown so much growth.  She was so clueless when it came to personal relationships and feelings and that led to some problems, but in Horde she is so much more than a Huntress, and what I really loved was how straightforward and honest she was.  There is absolutely no doubt about who she is, what's important, and who she loves.  Not at all.  They have so many other problems to deal with that there is never any of that angsty crap that a lot of dystopian novels have.  So refreshing!

Great secondary characters, including Stalker, Tegan, Longshot, Momma Oaks, Rex, Gavin, Edmund, Spence,  Tully, and Morrow.  Fast-paced, full of action, romance, friendship, family, love, hope, and courage.  If you haven't read this series, read it.

  1. I'm glad you liked this series even though I didn't make it past the first book. Zombies just don't do it for me and there were some other issues I had. But I am happy that it all wrapped up nicely for you. I did love Fade in the first book. He was my favorite character. :)

Also, I think this is the only series we disagree on. Lol.

  2. What a perfect, spoil-free review. I just cannot wait to get to sit down and read this one. I've reduced my blog tours in December so I can get through this series and read Crown of Midnight & Bitter Kingdom. Happy Christmas to me!

    1. I was worried, there have definitely been series enders that have been disappointing, to say the least. But not this one! ~Pam

  4. I want to start this series now! I keep hearing wonderful reviews of book 3, including yours. I'm so nervous about series ends these days after a few disappointments. I was also wary of a possible love triangle rumored in book 1, but everyone says that's a non issue that goes away. Anyway, love that these characters get stronger and that the end is satisfying.

  5. I love this series! Ann Aguirre made the ending of the trilogy just amazing. It ties everything up and the characters have matured, especially Stalker. Fade and Deuce's relationship also matured and their ending was absolutely something that I foresaw them having.

  6. This review helped motivate me to read Horde. I really enjoyed Enclave but was let down by Outpost. It's good to hear that this is a satisfying conclusion to the series. I do love Deuce and Fade <333
