Given the number of YA books published by Jennifer
Armentrout it’s rather remarkable that this is my first time reading her work. As an introduction to her style of writing
and story building it was wonderful. I’ve
not read many books with both alien and human characters. To be frank I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy
it. My co-blogger Pam highly recommended
this series so I thought I would give it a try.
The goodreads review gives you the basic plot so I’ll give you a few
reasons to read this book particularly if you are reading our blog and have
been reading our blog for awhile.
First, this book has some really funny scenes between a mostly nice young woman and a guy who can be a serious jerk with a truly horrible ex-girlfriend. I loved the scenes where Katy does all the things I wish I had had the confidence to do when I was in high school.
Second, while many of the YA books I have read make mention of how attractive the young men in the books are only a few describe his body and the female characters reactions to their bodies in such explicitly sexual terms. Plus there are a few great make-out scenes. This book still follows the norm in YA fiction of not too much detail but it definitely doesn’t fade to black or simply imply. It was a nice change!
Third, the main character is a BLOGGER! How funny is that? I kind of wonder is this Armentrout’s gift to all us bloggers out there.
Finally, I really loved the relationship between the sister and Dee and the sister and Daemon. It’s nice to read about functional sibling relationships!
Because I can't help but comment on the less than savory aspects of a YA story particularly as they relate to young women's identities, I honestly didn't understand some of need for the Homecoming scenes. I realize this is kind of an oblique reference but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone!

I am glad you liked this book. Unfortunately, no matter how many positive reviews I read, my feelings for alien books keep me from picking this one up for the foreseeable future. I will had to start with something else J. L. Armentrout!
