Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten New To Me Authors Read in 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.

Pam's Picks:
This is really tough since I had only read a few YA authors before this year (like Stephenie Meyer, J.K. Rowling, Lauren Oliver, Veronica Roth, and Ally Condie). But here are some of my favorite authors that I never read before 2013:

1.     Jennifer L. Armentrout.  I love both her Lux series and Covenant series.  Daemon. Katy.  Aiden.  Alex.  Great stories and characters, she's an auto-buy author for me now.
2.     Cassandra Clare.  I had seen City of Bones on the bookshelves for a long time, but for some reason I never read it until January of 2013 and I was hooked.  And then I read Infernal Devices and absolutely fell in love.
3.     Richelle Mead.  I read Vampire Academy in January of 2013 and, to be honest, I was a little disappointed and I was wondering what the fuss was all about.  But then I read Frostbite and I was hooked and every book got better and better.  And then Bloodlines...what a fantastic series.  And Gameboard of the Gods, also great.  Georgina Kincaid, highly entertaining.  I will read anything she writes now.
4.     Jessica Shirvington.  Her Embrace series is one of my all time favorite series (and it's complete!)  Fast-paced plots, amazing MCs, swoony guys, and great secondary characters, I can't express how much I love these books.
5.     Marissa Meyer.  I kept seeing Cinder everywhere and for some reason, I just didn't want to read it.  I have no idea why.  But finally I picked it up and fell in love.  And then had to read Scarlet immediately.  And now I'm dying to read Cress.  What a wonderful world (and characters) that she has created.

Sheri's Choices:

These are in no particular order and to be frank I would have included several of Pam's Picks but I wanted to add some new names to our list.

6. Clare LaZebnik.  I always love Jane Austen spin-offs and Epic Fail and Trouble with Flirting are great examples of YA Jane Austen spins.
7. Stephanie Perkins.  She was my first contemporary YA author and I loved her books Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door.
8. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I know the Caster Chronicles have been out for awhile but I had never read them.  I loved the first one and am currently listening to the second one.
9. Diana Peterfreund.  I was originally drawn to her books because For Darkness Shows the Stars is a retelling of Persuasion but the stories themselves and the world she has created is so compelling I will read them regardless of what classic book they mimic.
10. Sarah J. Maas. Female assassin with two great love interests, what more can I say.

  1. Cassandra Clare, Marissa Meyer, and Sarah J. Maas were all on my list as well!!! Seriously Sarah J. Maas. I can't even. She is a goddess. I will read anything with her name on it. Seriously. Because Chaol. Okay I'm done.

Why did I wait so long to read Cassandra Clare's books???? She's amazing. I binge read the entire Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series this year. Best decision ever. And I was also really reluctant to pick up Cinder. *goes back in time, slaps self* I can't wait for Cress!!!!!!

  2. Stephanie Perkins is my favorite! I'm so glad you picked those books up this year. I still need to finish reading Throne of Glass and its sequel and I've been in the middle of Cinder for, ahem, a few months. Definitely need to finish it, as well. I still haven't read VA, but want to before the movie. I bought the book from Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. Great list, ladies!
