Book Review: Disruption by Jessica Shirvington

Disruption (Disruption #1)
Author:  Jessica Shirvington
Publisher:  HarperCollins, 336 pages
Publication Date:  March 24, 2014

From Goodreads:
What if a microchip could identify your perfect match?
What if it could be used against you and the ones you love?

Eight years ago, Mercer Corporation’s M-Bands became mandatory. An evolution of the smartphone, the bracelets promised an easier life. Instead, they have come to control it.

Two years ago, Maggie Stevens watched helplessly as one of the people she loves most was taken from her, shattering her world as she knew it.

Now, Maggie is ready. And Quentin Mercer – heir to the M-Corp empire – has become key to Maggie’s plan. But as the pieces of her dangerous design fall into place, could Quentin’s involvement destroy everything she’s fought for?

In a world full of broken promises, the ones Maggie must keep could be the most heartbreaking.

Review:
Here are reasons you should read this book:

1.  Jessica Shirvington is a genius.  I absolutely love every single book she's written.  The Embrace series…phenomenal.  I cannot praise it enough.  And I actually listened to an audiobook because it was the only way I could "read" Between the Lives in the U.S.  And now this book…it is amazing!!!

2.  Characters I feel a connection to and actually care about.  How does this author do this so well?  Maggie does absolutely horrible things, but it's all because she's a good person who loves her dad.  She's kickass and strong.  And then there's Quentin…oh, how I absolutely adore him.  What he does, what he says.  Ahhhh!  And Gus is a great secondary character.  He and Maggie have a complicated relationship, but it was refreshing to see a girl and guy in a YA novel have a non-romantic relationship.

3.  Intriguing and fast-paced plot.  I just couldn't put this book down.  The world Jessica Shirvington created was so interesting, with people letting technology run their lives.  Completely believable. Basically, once you turn 18 your M-band rates everyone you get near, based on how their pheromones match with yours.  Negative ratings are bad and if you get enough, you're classified as a "neg," and taken away (you obviously did do something so bad or will do something bad).  People base their friendships and their romances on how high the rating is.  Is the rating just high enough for a hook-up? Being girlfriend/boyfriend?  Marriage?  This technology has led to some positive things in this world, such as people not getting as much plastic surgery, and people eat healthy and don't do drugs.  It's all about having positive rating matches.  And the question is, should you be defined by that? Even if there is something to it?  Fascinating stuff!

4.  The feels.  The feels!

5.  Gah…that ending!  I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhanger endings.  This author is a master at them.  So be prepared.

Loved loved loved this book!!!!

    1. She's one of my favorite authors, I absolutely love everything I've read. The Embrace series is one of the few series where I actually cried (not just got teary eyed). And that really doesn't happen to me. And it was for 10 chapters. Read her!! :) ~Pam

  3. Our reviews were both lists of why this book is so awesome! Haha ;D Great minds think alike, obviously.
But YES to everything you said in this review, Pam!
I have yet to read Jessica's Embrace series, but I own every book, and I am really excited about reading it! I have read Between the Lives, and I absolutely LOVED it. I think she is fast becoming one of my all time favourite authors.
The characters, feels, plot, and ending were all amazing aspects of this novel! I cannot believe we have to wait six months (or a bit longer) for the sequel! I want to know if the ending was real or not, and what happens to Maggie!
