Stacking the Shelves (6)

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!  It is hosted by Tyngas Reviews.

Pam's Weekly Haul

From the Library:

Sheri's Bounty of Books
Thank you for all the fabulous suggestions for Jane Austen spin-offs last week.  I'm trying to read some of the books on my "shelves" before I go on my big spending spree and reveal all the fabulous titles.  In the meantime, these are the books I recently bought on "sale".  Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why or how they determine when YA books will go on sale?

Bought (E-book)
Entwined by Heather Dixon
Defiance by C.J. Redwine
Beastly by Alex Finn
Slide by Jill Hathaway

Free Download (Audiobooks on SYNC YA Literature into Your Headphones)
Enchanted by Aletha Kontis (no Goodreads Review)
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
Death Cloud (Young Sherlock Holmes #1) by Andrew Lane

What books did you add to your shelves?

  1. You guys got some really great books! I need to read Crown of Embers because I really liked The Girl of Fire and Thorns :) I haven't read any of these books but some of them are on my TBR. Enjoy your books and happy reading!

    1. I wanted to read Crown of Embers since The Bitter Kingdom is coming out soon. I love being able to read series back to back if I can. I just hope I remember enough about The Girl of Fire and Thorns! :) ~Pam

    1. I'm enjoying the narration quit a bit but am a little perplexed by some of the scenes so far. I will definitely be reviewing it. *sheri

  3. How do you like audiobooks? Do you find them just as good as reading the book? I'm very weary about audiobooks?

    1. I spend a lot of time in my car and love them in that context if the narrator does a good job and the story doesn't involve a lot of characters. Sometimes it can be frustrating if the plot doesn't move along quickly but I generally love them. Just be sure and listen to the sample first. ~sheri

  5. I really liked Splintered. I've been reading The Girl of Fire and Thorns off and on. I've heard the second book is a lot better than the first. I still need to read Grave Mercy and Defiance. Great haul this week!

    1. I've heard good things about Splintered. I read The Girl of Fire and Thorns awhile back and while I liked it, I didn't love it. But I have heard people raving about the second book so I thought I would pick it up. ~Pam

  10. I'll be curious to see what you think of Crown of Embers and Dark Triumph. I'm halfway through DT--have been that way for awhile--but maybe I'll get around to picking up along with you! Maybe we could do a read-along?

I don't know when they determine YA books go on-sale, but I think part of it has to do with generating buzz about a book or when a book is super popular. Divergent, for instance, I think is cheap now because it's getting a lot of attention. And I think they'll discount a book every once in a while when they want more people to review - I think that's what they had done for Marie Lu's Legend and Stephanie Perkins' Anna and the French Kiss to get both onto the NYT Bestsellers, which worked for the former but not the latter. Er, but I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that.

Also in the middle of listening to Enchanted thanks to audiobooksync! :) I had lots of fun with Grave Mercy and the False Prince thanks to that program, so I hope you have fun with them too!!

    1. I've heard Crown of Embers is better than the first book, which I enjoyed, but didn't love. A read-along sounds great, let me know when you're planning on reading Dark Triumph! I loved Grave Mercy, but since Dark Triumph is a companion novel, I never felt compelled to read it right away. But I thought...library...free...why not? ~Pam

  11. Crown of Embers!! :D That one is even better than Girl of Fire and Thorns, which is saying something. And Splintered is great! Enjoy all of your new books! :)

  12. I still keep forgetting to include the Sync books to my STS each week. Oh well. You got some great books. I liked The Crown of Embers, Splintered, Defiance, Enchanted, and Entwined (one of my favorite retellings of the twelve dancing princesses). Slide and Grave Mercy are both on my tbr. Thanks for stopping by!
