Movie Review: Catching Fire
One of my favorite things about this time of year is the movies and I have been waiting very patiently for this particular release! Be warned my review is mostly a love fest and I am trying to not spoil anything for anyone.
First, I loved the amount of time dedicated to understanding Katniss and Peeta's lives since winning the games in the last movie. I also appreciated getting to see what life is like in some of the districts while they were on their victory tour. In fact, my only significant critique of the movie was too little time spent on explaining the seeds of the revolution instead we only get glimpses of revolutionary acts. I thought the writers/director did a nice job balancing the emotions Katniss feels for both Gale and Peeta throughout the movie. As with the last movie, I loved the casting for the other tributes and the time spent letting us get to know them on some level. I was thrilled so little time was spent in the arena and that we only got glimpses of the violence. I believe this decision also helped people who had not read the books make sense of the ending which to be frank was abrupt but leaves no doubt there will be a third movie! HOORAH!
If you've seen the movie please share your thoughts, if not have you seen other movies you liked recently?

I've not seen it yet but I'm fairly excited about going this weekend. I love that you thought the casting was good - I think that's so important especially if you've read the book and have a preconceived notion of what characters should be like. Great review! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed it!~Sheri
DeleteI have seen it twice and am dragging the boyfriend to see it tomorrow. I was a little disappointed with the first movie, but this one surpassed all my expectations! It was really incredible and the casting of the new characters was amazing - I especially loved Johanna and Finnick. I pretty much fangirled the whole time!
ReplyDeleteJohanna was definitely my favorite and I can't wait to see what they do with her in the third movie! I also have plans to see it again in about 2 weeks ~Sheri
Delete" I thought the writers/director did a nice job balancing the emotions Katniss feels for both Gale and Peeta throughout the movie." YES. I loved that aspect, it showed what kind of connections she has with everyone, making her a more well rounded protagonist. Loved the movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy so many people have enjoyed it. ~Sheri
DeleteI just went with my husband, and the biggest compliment I can think is that he LOVED it. I thought it was beyond words spectacular. What they left in, added, everything seemed to be the right choice. And of course, Rue's family made my cry.
ReplyDeleteOMG Rue's family and that whole district made me cry. My husband also enjoyed it and agreed its a fabulous book ~Sheri
DeleteI think I am going to make my husband take me to see it again tomorrow. I just loved it so freaking much. My sister is going tonight since I basically told her that if she didn't go see it I would no longer speak to her. Lol. Maybe that was a bit intense... but it's just so good! I also loved that the majority of the time was spent outside of the arena. I was worried that they would cut the tour and focus on the arena but they didn't. They stayed really true to the book. It was amazing! Glad you loved it!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny about your sister because I said something similar to another friend ~Sheri
DeleteI JUST SAW THIS YESTERDAY FINALLY AND I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! I cried several times - over Rue, Gale, Mags, Cinna. I loved how they portrayed everything. I THINK FINNICK WAS CAST PERFECTLY. It was such a wonderful adaption, I don't think I could be happier. The ending was a little abrupt but whatever. I love this movie. :D :D :D
ReplyDeleteI loved it. They have a perfect cast and I even started to appreciate Peeta!
