From Goodreads:
A mighty flame follows a tiny spark.

Cora Sandoval’s mother disappeared when she was five and they were living in Ireland. Since then, her dad has been more than overprotective, and Cora is beginning to chafe under his confines. But even more troubling is the colorful light she suddenly sees around people. Everyone, that is, except herself—instead, she glows a brilliant, sparkling silver.

As she realizes the danger associated with these strange auras, Cora is inexplicably drawn to Finn, a gorgeous Irish exchange student who makes her feel safe. Their attraction is instant, magnetic, and primal—but her father disapproves, and Finn’s mother orders him home to Ireland upon hearing he’s fallen in love. After a fight with her father, Cora flees to Ireland, both to follow Finn and to look for her missing mother.

There she meets another silver-haloed person and discovers the meaning of her newfound powers and their role in a conspiracy spanning centuries—one that could change mankind forever…and end her life.

Scintillate is the first book in this lush and exciting new trilogy, full of romance, adventure and metaphysical mystery.

Review:
Fascinating and unique premise with Cora suddenly being able to see auras, trying to get a handle on that, and then meeting Finn, who she feels an instant attraction for (it was just a bit annoying, not too much).  She's then catapulted into a new world of danger, intrigue, evil (although there are very interesting shades of gray), secrets, betrayal, and romance.  I really enjoyed this book, it had me on the edge of my seat.  There were complex characters, unexpected plot twists, including a revelation that left Cora reeling (and left me quite heartbroken) and makes me wonder what is going to happen in the next book (How is the author going to solve this?  Is the author going to solve it?)  Loved that a lot of the book takes place in Ireland and includes Irish folklore.  Definitely recommend!

  1. I really want to read this! I didn't realize it was set in Ireland, that's super interesting. I've been wanting to read books in more unique settings. I will definitely be reading this one. Great review!

    1. Well, with a paranormal, anything is possible as far as solving the issue, but I'm really curious what's going to happen with that. And yes, so many books to read! ~Pam

  4. OK. I have this book from NG, but now I'm worried because I've heard rumors that it does/might in the future include a love triangle. Could you give me more information on that? I just cannot invest in another story that is going to involve a girl torn between two guys, especially if it is going to drag out over a series. I love the Irish setting though. Help!

    1. There's definitely a potential love triangle, but not one in the first book. But I can see it happening in the future, although I think it's more going to be not a real one, in the sense that you know where her heart really is but there are certain issues that will keep them apart, which leaves things open for door number two. But I really have no idea! :) ~Pam
