Pam and I would like to attend some book festivals in the next year. Last year we attended YAK Fest 2014 in Keller, TX and had a great time (blog review). While I hope to attend YAK Fest 2015, I would also like to try a slightly larger festival. Since we live in Texas it makes perfect sense to try one of the other Texas festivals. For example, I'm thinking about attending the Texas Teen Book Festival (October 18, 2014) in Austin, Texas and possibly the RT Booklovers Convention (May 2015) in Dallas. I'm also interested in learning about festivals further away. So please share with us your recommendations for festivals you have attended or have heard great things about. Once I get all the recommendations, I will try to create a list of festivals kind of like the one below.
I am also interested in understanding why the RT booklovers convention is expected to cost almost $500 dollars to register! What exactly do I get for $500?

$500, seriously?!? WOW! The only one I have been to is YALC, which was this year and was the UK's first ever Young Adult Literary Convention and was held at London Film and Comic Con. It was a ton of fun and only cost £15 per ticket per day, all the author talks and signings were completely free to attend as well. For $500 I would be wanting to get a lot out of that.
ReplyDeleteI would love to attend yours. That would be so exciting.
Delete$500???? Wow, I have no idea why it's so much. But I have a friend who just went to RT this year. I'll ask her how much it was for her and what she got for it. There's YALL Fest in South Carolin Nov 7-8 this year. I've heard that's pretty good. I was going to go, but I'm going to be in Mexico. And you should totally try for ALA MW in Chicago next winter. I think it's at the end of January? I'm going to try really hard to go to that!
ReplyDeleteOkay I am going to research both of those for sure. Thank you ~Sheri
DeleteI've never been to any Book Festival unfortunately. I really want to go to BEA, but being from Kansas, it's a bit far. And expensive. Texas Teen Book Festival looks interesting though. It's apparently free, which is always nice.

Does it have to be in Texas? Or would you fly? I am poorly informed on bookish events/festivals in my area, let alone the rest of the US. I am trying to get better about this. But I hear there is a great one in Charleston which is sort of close to TX hah
